    En este artículo hacemos una reflexión teórica sobre los principios morales que coexisten en las responsabilidades de cuidado. El don, la reciprocidad y la mercancía conforman sistemas morales diferenciados que a menudo operan en direcciones contrapuestas. No hay una sola ética del cuidado, sino diversas. Obligación y deuda están intrínsecamente relacionadas. Estar en deuda es la base del sistema moral que articula las responsabilidades de cuidados. Pero esta obligación moral está desigualmente repartida entre hombres y mujeres, así como entre la familia y el conjunto social. Un sentido de justicia social demanda un sentido más amplio de obligación. Es en el marco de la deuda social donde podemos avanzar hacia un reparto equilibrado del cuidado entre sexos y generaciones y una responsabilidad compartida entre individuo, familia, Estado y comunidad.

    This article makes a theoretical reflection on the moral principles that co-exist in responsibilities for caring. The gift, reciprocity and merchandise are quite different moral systems that often pull in different directions; there is not just one ethic of care. Obligation and debt are intrinsically related. Being indebted is the very base of the moral system that organizes the responsibility for caring, but this moral obligation is unequally shared between men and women, and between the family and society as a whole. A sense of social justice requires a broader sense of obligation. It is in the framework of social debt where we can make progress towards a balanced distribution of caring between sexes and generations, and towards sharing responsibility among the individual, the family, the state and the community.
