    Una extensa literatura académica se está ocupando de analizar las implicaciones del trabajo del cuidado en la vida social, y cómo éste es organizado y distribuido entre el Estado, la familia, el mercado y las organizaciones comunitarias. El foco de atención se ha centrado casi con exclusividad en las transferencias entre los tres primeros sistemas mencionados, quedando en la penumbra el ámbito comunitario. El objetivo de este artículo es rastrear la dimensión comunitaria en el cuidado desde la investigación social con un enfoque en las desigualdades de género. Partimos de una exploración teórica sobre cómo se ha desarrollado su conceptualización en el sur de Europa y América Latina, reflexionamos sobre la pertinencia del ámbito comunitario en un momento marcado por la crisis, la discusión sobre el papel del Estado, la redefinición de los sistemas de bienestar y las potencialidades políticas y autogestivas de lo comunitario.

    A vast array of academic literature is currently analyzing the implications of care work in social life, and how it is organized and distributed among the State, the family, the market, and community organizations. Research has focused almost exclusively on the transfer of care among the State, the family and the market. The role of community organizations remains in the shadows. The objective of this article is to explore the community dimension of care through social research focusing on gender inequalities. To this effect, we start with a theoretical exploration of how the community has been conceived historically. From this theoretical map, focused mainly on the regions of South Europe and Latin America, we reflect upon the pertinence of community organizations in the context of an economic crisis, the debate over the role of the State, the redefinition of the welfare state, and community organizations’ potential for political action and selfmanagement.
