De Yatay a Cerro-Corá: consenso e dissenso na resistência militar paraguaia

    It was critically proposed that Paraguayan soldiers'fearlessness during the War of the Triple Alliance was due to the fact that they were savages, barbarians and to their fear of the dictator. In the opposite direction, some historians argue that such quality would be natural in those soldiers, a sort of intrinsic feature. Generally, analysts don't realize that the positive evaluation of the Paraguayan soldiers is contemporaneous with Paraguayan war, being that army and its soldiers undervalued before it. This paper discusses the reasons of the faithfulness of Paraguayan soldiers with the defense of their national territory.

    Propôs-se criticamente que o destemor do soldado paraguaio quando da Guerra da Tríplice Aliança deveria-se a ele ser um selvagem, bárbaro e a temer o ditador. Em sentido contrário, defendeu-se que tal qualidade seria natural naquele soldado, devido a suas qualidades intrínsecas. Em geral, escapa aos analistas que a avaliação positiva do soldado paraguaio é contemporânea à guerra, prevalecendo anteriormente avaliações negativas daquele exército e soldado. O artigo discute as razões do compromisso do soldado paraguaio com o esforço defensivo do território nacional
