    Introducción: En la Cuba de finales del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX surgió el primer movimiento teórico, científico, ideológico y cultural, La Generación del 92.Objetivo: Explicar la labor desarrollada por Tomás Romay que lo convierte en un eminente intelectual cubano del siglo XIX.Conclusiones: Tomás Romay realizó una ardua labor dentro de la sociedad cubana del siglo XIX en diferentes esferas del conocimiento desde pertenecer al primer movimiento teórico, científico, ideológico y cultural, conocido como la Generación del 92, hasta incursionar destacadamente en la medicina cubana con la introducción de la vacunación.El legado vivo dejado por Tomás Romay abre, por tanto, la posibilidad de juzgar la realidad histórica a través del prisma de su percepción personal.

    Introduction: in the Cuba of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the first theoretical, scientific, ideological and cultural movement emerged, "La Generación del 92". Objective: to explain the work developed by Tomas Romay that makes him an eminent Cuban intellectual of the 19th century. Method: a historical research based on the materialist-dialectical method was carried out. Analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical theoretical methods were used. At the empirical level, a documentary analysis of 14 bibliographic articles from different databases was carried out from 2017 to 2018. Conclusions: Tomas Romay carried out an arduous task within the nineteenth century where he analyzed the Cuban society in different spheres of knowledge, belonging to the first theoretical, scientific, ideological and cultural movement, known as "La Generación del 92", included the Cuban medicine with the introduction of vaccination. The living legacy left by Tomas Romay opens, therefore, the possibility of judging the historical reality through his personal perception.
