“La cámara de las escripturas e previllejos” de las órdenes militares castellanas y universales

    This paper aims to make an approach to the Castilians military orders (Santiago, Calatrava and Alcántara) and, also, to the universal military orders (San Juan) archives, focus on their organization and evolution, from the origins of these religious institutions to the transfer of the documentation at the building of the National Historic Archive in the XXth Century. Through the study of manuscripts, inventories, visiting books, historic legislation… we show how were the archival practices, the methods of organization and the procedures of conservation of this collection. Finally, we attend to the actual status of the written memory placed in Military Orders section.

    El presente artículo pretende hacer un acercamiento a los archivos de las órdenes militares castellanas (Santiago, Calatrava y Alcántara) y universales (San Juan), atendiendo a su organización y evolución desde los orígenes de estas instituciones religiosas hasta el traslado de la documentación al edifi cio del Archivo Histórico Nacional en el siglo XX. Por medio del estudio de diplomas, inventarios, libros de visitas, legislación histórica… veremos cuáles han sido las prácticas archivísticas, los métodos de organización y los procedimientos de conservación de sus fondos. Para fi nalizar, daremos unas breves pinceladas sobre cuál es el estado de actual de la memoria escrita depositada en la sección de Órdenes Militares.
