    Los objetivos principales de este estudio son una breve revisión de la legislación archivística actualmente vigente respecto a los archivos municipales y su uso de Internet, y el análisis de la información online de todos los archivos municipales españoles registrados en el Censo-Guía de Archivos de España e Iberoamérica. Los resultados muestran que, en general, la mayor parte de este tipo de centros no difunde su información a través de Internet, desconociendo incluso la existencia de este directorio de archivos y la información que contiene. Las razones más destacadas de la falta de información online son, por una parte, los escasos recursos de estos centros, no pudiendo siquiera realizar las actividades más básicas de un archivo y, por otra, el tener otras prioridades acordes a las funciones archivísticas principales. Finalmente el trabajo de los profesionales de estas instituciones se ve eclipsado por el desconocimiento general de la población respecto al patrimonio documental conservado y sus posibilidades de acceso.

    The main objectives of this study are a a brief review of the current archiving legislation in regard to municipal archives and their use of the Internet, as well as the analysis of the online information of every spanish municipal archive registered in the Census-Directory of Spanish and Ibero-american Archives. The results show that in general, most of these centers don«t provide information through the Internet, even ingoring the existing of these kind of fi le directory and the information it contain. The more prominent reasons of this lack of on-line information are, on the one hand, the scarce resources of these centers, being unable to perform the most basic activities in any are of archive operation; and on the other hand, having priorities in order to their municipal archive duties. Lastly, the work performance of the professionals in these institutions is overshadowed by the lack of knowledge amount the population in general regarding the rich patrimony of the documents preserved and the possibilities of access the information.
