  Hace ya tres años que los británicos decidieron en referéndum abandonar la UE. De acuerdo con las previsiones del art. 50 del TUE la salida debería haberse producido hace meses; sin embargo, como es sabido, se ha ido prorrogando la permanencia del RU como consecuencia de las dificultades para ratificar el acuerdo de salida pactado en noviembre de 2018. En este trabajo se analiza el sentido de este acuerdo de salida, sus relaciones con el acuerdo que regirá las relaciones futuras entre el RU y la UE, las razones para el retraso en la ratificación del mismo, el régimen establecido en las dos prórrogas del período fijado en el art. 50 del TUE acordadas hasta ahora; así como las perspectivas que se abren para la salida del RU en los próximos meses.

  Three years ago, the UK decided in a referendum to leave the EU. According to the provisions of art. 50 of the TEU, its exit should have taken place months ago; however, as is known, the permanence of the UK has been extended because of the difficulties in ratifying the withdrawal agreement concluded in November 2018. This paper analyses the significance of this withdrawal agreement, its conections with the agreement that will govern the future relationship between the UK and the EU, the reasons for the delay in the ratification of the withdrawal agreement, the legal framework for the two extensions of the UK’s exit from the EU, agreed according with art. 50 of the TUE; as well as the forecast about the possibility of an effective UK withdrawal in the coming months
