El indígena como sujeto ecológico: el caso U´wa

    El deterioro de los ecosistemas y el agotamiento progresivo de los recursos naturales y especies animales han generado preocupación en diferentes grupos sociales y despertado su conciencia ecológica. El conflicto u´wa con el Estado colombiano y las transnacionales petroleras es un claro ejemplo que demuestra, por un lado la violación a los territorios de muchos grupos nativos y a su integridad cultural y, por otro, que el uso irresponsable por parte de la sociedad occidental de los bienes que ofrece la naturaleza está llevando a la destrucción total del planeta. Las coincidencias entre el pensamiento indígena y la ideología ambientalista han surgido de la necesidad que tienen tanto el uno como el otro de proteger los medios necesarios para preservar la vida.

    Deterioration of ecosystems and progressive depletion of natural resources and animal species have generated concern in different social groups and developed their ecological awareness. The u'wa conflict with the Colombian State and the transnational oil companies is a clear example that demonstrates, on the one hand the violation of the territories of many native groups and to their cultural integrity and, on the other hand, that the irresponsible use on the part of the western society of the goods offered by nature is leading to the total destruction of the planet. The coincidences between indigenous thought and the environmentalist ideology have arisen from the need that has both one and the other to protect the necessary means to preserve life.
