Resumen de Una aproximación bioética al término enhancement postulado por el transhumanismo

  La hipótesis de este artículo es que la propuesta transhumanista de “enhancement” humano aporta a la concepción de mejoramiento humano en un sentido cuantitativo mas no necesariamente en uno cualitativo. En la primera sección caracterizaremos los dos significados más habituales del término “enhancement” utilizado por los transhumanistas: como sinónimo de aumento y como sinónimo de mejoramiento o perfeccionamiento y cómo cada uno implica una concepción subyacente de cantidad y cualidad. En la segunda sección analizaremos si una maximización de ciertas funciones o facultades implica necesariamente una mejora y de qué tipo. En la tercera sección discurriremos brevemente sobre el problema de la especificación del bien y la finalidad del ser humano, implícitos en la concepción valorativa o cualitativa del mejoramiento humano. Finalmente, haremos una reflexión conclusiva donde exhortamos a la profundización sobre estos temas.

  The hypothesis of the article is that the transhumanist proposal of human enhance-ment contributes to the conception of human betterment in a quantitative sense but not necessarily in a qualitative one. In the first section we will characterize the two most com-mon meanings of the term enhancement used by transhumanists: as a synonym of aug-mentation and as a synonym of improvement or betterment and how each one implies an underlying conception of quantity and quality. In the second section we will analyze whe-ther a maximization of certain functions or faculties necessarily implies an improvement and of what type. In the third section we will briefly discuss the problem of the specifica-tion of the good and the ultimate purpose of the human being, implicit in the evaluative or qualitative conception of human betterment. Finally, we will make a concluding reflection where we urge to deepen on these issues.
