    La guerra de los Nueve Años volvió a enfrentar a Francia y España en una lucha desigual. Durante la contienda Navarra fue un frente secundario, pero el miedo a una invasión francesa a gran escala estuvo siempre latente. Este periodo no ha recibido mucha atención, a pesar de que Navarra se convertirá en el destino de muchas tropas –reclutadas en otras partes– ante la necesidad de que el reino estuviese bien defendido. Algo que significará un notable incremento de las fuerzas militares presentes, y la militarización del reino. En este texto analizaremos el dispositivo defensivo de Navarra durante ese periodo, centrado la atención sobre el elemento humano: los hombres que defendían la frontera.

    The Nine Years’ War once again pitted France and Spain against each other in an unequal struggle. During the war Navarre was a secondary front, but the fear of a large-scale French invasion was always latent. This period has not received much attention, despite the fact that Navarre will become the destination of many troops –recruited elsewhere– due to the need for the kingdom to be well defended. This will mean a notable increase in the present military forces and the militarisation of the kingdom. In this text we will analyse the defensive device of Navarre during this period, focusing attention on the human element: the men who defended the border.

    Bederatziko Urteko gerrak berriz ere jarri zituen elkarren aurka Frantzia eta Espainia borroka gorabeheratsu batean. Borrokaldian, Nafarroa bigarren mailako frontea izan zen, baina Frantziak inbasio handia egin zezakeelako beldurra latente egon zen beti.

    Aldi horri ez zaio kasu handirik egin, Nafarroa beste leku batzuetan erreklutatutako tropa askoren helmuga izan arren, erresuma ondo defendatuta izateko beharraren ondorioz. Horren ondorio izanen da bertan bildutako indar militarrak nabarmen handitzea, eta erresuma militarizatzea. Testu honetan, Nafarroak aldi horretan izandako defentsa antolamendua aztertuko dugu, eta giza elementuan, muga defendatzen zutenengan, jarritako arreta izanen dugu ardatz.
