    La ciuitas romana de Santa Criz de Eslava ofrece uno de los repertorios más generosos de material epigráfico del territorio de los vascones. Procedentes los tituli tanto del foro de la ciudad como de su necrópolis, pero también con un buen conjunto de documentos hallados en las uillae y fundi del territorio rural, su estudio y análisis, tanto desde el punto de vista tipológico como desde el formal y material, ofrecen un adecuado paradigma de cómo el hábito epigráfico caló en territorio de vascones entre los siglos i y iii d. C.

    Santa Criz Eslabako ciuitas erromatarrak baskoien lurraldeko material epigrafikoaren bilduma aberatsenetako bat biltzen du. Tituli direlakoek hiriko foroan bezala nekropolian ere dute jatorria, baina, era berean, landa lurraldeko uillae eta fundi direlakoetan aurkitutako dokumentu multzo ederrarekin batera, haien ikerketak eta azterketak, bai ikuspuntu tipologikotik, bai ikuspuntu formal eta materialetik, ohitura epigrafikoa Kristo ondorengo i. eta iii. mendeen artean baskoien lurraldean sartu zen moduaren paradigma egokia ematen dute.

    The roman city of Santa Criz de Eslava offers one of the best and more splendid corpus of epigraphic evidence on the territory of ancient Vascones. With tituli attested in the forum of the city as well as in its burial area but also with a very remarkable catalogue of documents coming from the uillae and fundi of the rural areas, its study and analysis, from the tipological as well as from the material and formal point of view, provides us a very wide description on the way the epigraphic habit took place in the Vascones’ territory between 1st and 3rd centuries ad.
