  • Resumen
    • Martin Hoerling of NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder CO, and colleagues investigated why seasonal forecasts failed to predict 2012's drought. They blame the event on natural atmospheric variability, which prevented moist air from moving north of the Gulf of Mexico during the summer. A team led by Peter Stott of the UK Met Office's Hadley Centre in Exeter is developing a system for attributing the causes of heatwaves, cold spells, floods, droughts and storm surges, under a new EU project.
