    Entre las adquisiciones pictóricas llevadas a cabo por Carlos IV en 1807 en la testamentaría de don Francisco de Bruna y Ahumada, el longevo alcaide de los Reales Alcázares de Sevilla, ha podido ser localizada por primera vez en los fondos de Patrimonio Nacional "La visión de la cruz ante san José y el Niño", una interesantísima obra del pintor de origen flamenco, asentado en Sevilla con anterioridad a 1653, Cornelis Schut el Joven. La aparición de su firma y fecha en 1668 durante el proceso de su reciente restauración ha permitido confirmar su inclusión dentro de los años más fructíferos de su etapa de madurez artística, fuertemente imbuida por la amable estética murillesca tan del gusto del rey.

    Of the acquisitions of paintings made by Charles IV in 1807 from the estate sale of Francisco de Bruna y Ahumada, the long-lived warden of the Reales Alcázares of Seville, the "Vision of the Cross before Saint Joseph and the Child ", a higly interesting work by Cornelis Schut the Younger, a painter of Flemish origin who had settled in Seville by 1653, has been located for the first time in the holdings of Patrimonio Nacional. The appearance of his signature and date 1668 during his recent restoration has made it possible to ascribe this piece to the most fruitful years of his mature periode when his art was heavily imbued with the pleasing aesthetic of Murillo, of which the king was so fond.
