La pintura " LLegada del cráneo de San Valero a Zaragoza" en su capilla de la Seo de Zaragoza. Estudio histórico-artístico a propósito de su restauración

    Con motivo de la restauración del cuadro en 2014 se realizó el presente estudio que ha permitido precisar documentalmente la renovación completa de la capilla de San Valero en torno al año 1667, patrocinada secretamente por el canónigo arcediano de Zaragoza Miguel Antonio Francés de Urrutigoyti. Se analizan los aspectos iconográficos y formales del cuadro, fundadamente atribuido al pintor Bartolomé Vicente, y se examina su plena correspondencia estilística con el retablo y yeserías de la capilla. Se enmienda el error largamente repetido de datar la reforma de la capilla hacia 1696-1698, en tiempo del arzobispo Antonio Ibáñez de la Riva, lo que no concordaba con la evidencia de pertenecer sus elementos artísticos a una etapa barroca más temprana.

    The present study was realized on the occasion of the restauration of the picture in 2014. It allowed for document the complete renovation of the Saint Valero’s chapel around the year 1667, having been sponsored by the canon archdeacon of Zaragoza Miguel Antonio Francés de Urrutigoyti. Iconographic and stylistic aspects are analyzed. With good reason it was attributed to the painter Bartolomé Vicente. It is examined the full stylistic correspondence between the picture and the altarpiece and the plasterwork of the chapel. It is amended the long repeated mistake of dating the remodeling of the chapel around 1696-1698, during the archbishop Antonio Ibáñez de la Riva times. This proposition did not agree with the evidence of belonging its artistic elements to an earlier baroque period.
