    En torno al paso del siglo XIX al XX, la expansión urbana de Melilla y el aumento de su población generaron la necesidad de construir un nuevo templo extramuros. El ingeniero militar Vicente García del Campo fue el técnico designado para llevar a cabo tal tarea, trabajando en el proyecto y dirigiendo las primeras obras de este edificio. El lenguaje manierista, recuperado desde una perspectiva historicista, caracteriza esta propuesta arquitectónica que no llegaría a construirse por diversas circunstancias.

    The passage of time going from the XIX to the XX century has experienced the urban expansion of the city of Melilla, as well as the increase of its population, phenomenon which has led to the need of a new outside temple. The military engineer Vicente García del Campo was the specialist in charge of this duty, working in the project and managing the first works of this building. The Mannerist language, recovered from an historicist perspective, characterises this architectural proposal which could not be carried out for a variety of reasons.
