    En una noche de enero de 2016, cuando apenas pasaban las 5 de la mañana, a 77 kilómetros al noroeste de la Ciudad de Melilla, el mar de Alborán tembló con una fuerza de 6,3. Los estragos del terremoto, aunque no dejaron en ella víctimas mortales, fueron notables y evidentes. Fue su Casa Consistorial, el Palacio de la Asamblea –comúnmente llamado el Ayuntamiento- una de las edificaciones que más desperfectos sufrió. Ello desencadenó unos trabajos de rehabilitación en el Ala Norte que, de un modo u otro, ya iban a formar parte de la historia de tan ilustre edificio.

    On the night of January 25th, 2016 at just past 5 in the morning, 48 miles northwest of the City of Melilla, the Alboran Sea trembled with a force of 6.3 on the Richter scale. Although there were no human victims, the ravages of the earthquake were remarkable and evident. The Palace of the Assembly within the Town Hall (commonly called the Ayuntamiento) was one of the buildings that suffered the most damage. This unexpected event triggered rehabilitation work that, one way or another, was bound to occur at some point in the history of this illustrious building.
