La ley nos arroja generalmente las siguientes características tipo de arma, calibre, sistema de funcionamiento, longitud del cañón y destino y lo utiliza para encuadrar el arma de fuego en un hecho presuntamente delictuoso, el análisis de los artículos 9, 10 y 11 LFAFyE y su interpretación normativa nos llevara a dar la razón de sus necesaria reforma, ya que tenemos armas que por las características anteriores no pueden ser encuadradas, hablando de posesión y portación o de uso exclusivo del ejército armada y fuerza aérea. Razón por la cual podemos poseer un arma como la 5.7 pero no su cartucho que es de uso exclusivo.
