More than hundred years after the publication of the first fascicle of Tobler-Lommatzsch in 1915, Richard Baum adds a capstone to the Altfranzösisches Wörterbuch by writing the history of the dictionary. This well-documented and personal »tale of inspiration and perseverance« (cf. Leena Löfstedt) is complemented by some observations of the author of this contribution. He had the privilege of accompanying the former editor of the dictionary, the late Hans Helmut Christmann, in the endeavour to continue this centennial work after Erhard Lommatzsch's death in 1975.
