  • Goulson talks about the decision to ban controversial neonicotinoid pesticides in the European Union. These chemicals cannot be used for two years on crops that attract bees. All EU nations, even those that voted against this move late last month, including the UK, must impose the ban by December. The idea is that neonicotinoids--a family of pesticides designed to kill crop pests such as aphids--are behind the worrying decline in bees over the last decade or so.
