Resumen de El cosmonauta Ivan Istochnikov en la era de la postfotografía

La fotografía está sufriendo una transformación radical debido a tres factores del desarrollo tecnológico: la digitalización, el nacimiento y el acelerado desarrollo de Internet y, por último, la revolución de los dispositivos móviles. Este proceso en curso está dando como resultado lo que se ha venido en llamar postfotografía. Conceptos clave en la fotografía se están “desmaterializando” en el medio “líquido” digital de la Red de redes, donde la autoría individual de las imágenes está dejando paso a formas visuales de expresión en las que se crea nuevo sentido, y conceptos como verdad y memoria entran en crisis. Este trabajo cuestiona si en la actual era postfotográfica tendría sentido el proyecto Sputnik, realizado por Joan Fontcuberta en 1997 con el propósito de reflexionar sobre los usos de la fotografía en aquel momento. Tras detallar la aventura del cosmonauta Ivan Istochnikov y lo que sucedió en los medios de comunicación, se estudia las características de la postfotografía, para concluir que una obra así no tendría sentido después de la mencionada transformación del hecho fotográfico.

Photography is undergoing a radical transformation due to three factors of technological development: digitalization, the beginning and accelerated development of the Internet and, finally, the revolution of mobile devices. This ongoing process resulting in what has been called Post-Photography. Key concepts in Photography are being “dematerialized” in the digital “liquid” environment of the World Wide Web, where the individual authorship of images is giving way to forms of visual expression in which a new meaning is created and concepts such as truth and memory enter a crisis. This work questions whether the project Sputnik, made by Joan Fontcuberta in 1997 with the purpose of reflecting on the uses of Photography at that time, would make sense in the current Post-Photographic Era. After detailing the adventure of the cosmonaut Ivan Istochnikov and what happened in the media, the characteristics of Post-Photography are studied, to conclude that such a work would have no meaning after the aforementioned transformation of the photographic act.
