  La devaluación de diciembre de 1994, el aumento de las tasas de interés y de la inflación en 1995 tuvieron significativas repercusiones desfavorables en la rentabilidad de la porcicultura mexicana.
  
  Esta situación motivó la presente investigación, cuyo objetivo fue determinar la rentabilidad de doce granjas porcícolas que contrastaban en su tamaño en la Región Noroeste de Guanajuato, bajo la hipótesis de que las empresas pequeñas eran menos rentables que las de mayor tamaño. La rentabilidad se determinó usando la ganancia y la relación de rentabilidad privada, encontrándose que efectivamente las granjas pequeñas fueron menos rentables que las grandes.

  The December 1994 devaluation, increase in the interest rates and the 1995 inflation had unfavorable effects on the profitability of swine farm. This situation motived this research whose main objective was to measure the profitability of twelve swine farms of contrasting size in the Northwestern region of Guanajuato. The hypothesis was that small farms have lower profits than larger ones. Profitability was obtained by using the values of profit and the private profit ratio. It was found, indeed, that small farms have lower profitability than larger ones.
