    • In this speech Cicero defends a way of living and some youthful licenses, which he had previously disapproved. His purpose is to defend a young pupil at the cost of contradicting his own ethical values. Similar positions are documented in Terence and Seneca. Cicero's motivation is not so much to defend Celius as to attack Clodia's depravation.
