  • Taking recent discussions on similarity as a paradigm for cultural theory as a starting point this paper proposes to distinguish between overt and covert similarities and surveys the methodological issues involved in determining the manner and degree of similarity. With reference to philosophical action theory it is argued that similarities can be more accurately analyzed when considered the result of a comparison, i. e. when seen in light of the act of comparing.
