Resumen de Realidades y tendencias en la educación superior privada mexicana

El artículo analiza cómo la educación superior mexicana presenta tres tendencias: crecimiento, diversificación, y crecimiento del sector privado. Se pone especial énfasis en la tercera. Se presentan datos y argumentos sobre el crecimiento del sector privado y las posibles causas de este incremento en la matrícula de licenciatura y en su participación porcentual en el total nacional. En especial, se analiza el caso de las instituciones de educación superior no universitarias o de bajo perfil y se especula acerca del papel complementario que parecen tener en la educación superior mexicana al proveer de oportunidades educativas a quienes por razones de económicas o de limitación de espacios físicos no ingresan a instituciones públicas, privadas religiosas o privadas de élite.

In this article, the author analyzes the three main trends within Mexican higher education: growth, diversification and strenghtening of the private sector, with a special emphasis on the third one. He presents valuable information and arguments about the growth of the private sector and the possible reasons for this increase of the number of enrolled undergraduate students and the percentage of their participation at national level, highlighting the case of the low profile higher education institution which do not belong to the university type and thinking about the complementary role they seem to play within Mexican higher education, giving education opportunities to the people who, for economical reasons or because of the space scarcity, are not able to enroll in public, religious oriented private or elite institutions.
