The towers of Santa Perpetua de Gaià (Tarragona) and Vallferosa (Lérida) are two constructions that have been dated to the X-XI centuries, so, it is said, they would be part of the series of castles on the border or mark between the territories of al-Anda-lus and the Catalan counties.Their reinterpretation and analysis of 14C indicate that they were actually built in the VII-VIII and VIII-IX centuries, so they were not built because of the borders of the 10th century. The new dating forces us to look for new models of historical explana-tion: towers related to the communications - roads and ravines - and fiscal control between territories.
