  • In francophone post-colonial literature, macaque — rhesus monkey — designates the latent, threatening, African origins of whitened island Negroes. Macaqueries is a meta-discursive term of more complex use yet, a type of anti-realist, anti-classicist macaronic style operating in literature by marvellous ruse.
