  • Segalen's travel writing puts in parallel the expedition and the literary venture, which questions the relationship between art and life. The book constructs itself and its meta-discourse, an "art poétique'" which reshapes enunciation in a refusal of the omniscient narrator, consistent with all Segalen's practice.
