  • Until now the diasystematic marking of phraseological units has not received enough attention in works about lexicographical or theoretical Catalan Linguistics. In this article we study the diaphasic marking of phraseological units based on a corpus of literary works by the writer Toni Cucarella from Xàtiva. We follow the proposal of Inmaculada Penadés that establishes a set of criteria to be applied easily in order to mark locutions in dictionaries. The aim of the article is to find out whether these criteria can serve to establish the diaphasic marking of the phraseological units studied. These criteria are as follows. First, the evoked image underlying the locutions. Second, the threat to the public image of either one of the interlocutors or the third person that entails the literal interpretation of a locution. Third, the marking of lexical units (if any), which make up the locution. Fourth, the relationship between euphemistic locutions and their corresponding dysphemisms. The fifth criterion is the perception of the speaker on one side, and of the lexicographer as a user of the language on the other side, about the type of situations in which the locution is used. The sixth and last criterion is the locution’s tendency to appear in a certain type of text.
