Este trabajo analiza la labor desempeñada por la Casa de Braganza en la Misericordia de Vila Viçosa durante los siglos XVI y XVII, dando a conocer sus inversiones en el auxilio de los pobres. A pesar de su autonomía, esta Santa Casa situada en el Alentejo, actuó en muchas ocasiones en nombre de los duques, no solamente por haber transferido algunas de sus instituciones de asistencia a la cofradía, sino también porque fueron hermanos de ella y en ella instituyeron legados píos. El poder de los Braganza se hizo sentir más en las décadas que precedieron a la Restauración, remarcándose la visibilidad de su acción en esta institución caritativa

This work analyzes the performance of the House of Bragança in the Misericórdia of Vila Viçosa during the XVI-XVII centuries, showing the investment of the Dukes and their House in helping the poor. In spite of being autonomous, the Holy House of Alentejo was, over the centuries, an institution that acted in the name of the dukes, not only because they transferred their institutions of assistance to the confraternity, as were their brothers and they established legacies. The power of the Bragança was more felt in the decades preceding the Restoration, being very visible its action in this charity
