Las dos caras de Roma en las interpretaciones de Occidente de F. Nietzsche

    Este artículo pretende mostrar las dos valoraciones distintas y antagónicas que tienen Roma y el Imperio romano en la obra de Nietzsche. En su época de juventud, Roma representa el «Estado bárbaro» que se opone al «Estado de cultura » característico de la Grecia trágica. Además, Roma supone un hito histórico fundamental en el dominio progresivo de la cultura socrático-alejandrina en Occidente.

    Después de Humano, demasiado humano, Roma significa, por el contrario, una forma de vida aristocrática que se enfrenta al cristianismo —el acontecimiento ahora decisivo de la historia de Occidente— y que acaba siendo vencida por él. La razón de este cambio en la estimación de este fenómeno histórico-cultural se encuentra, a nuestro juicio, en las transformaciones que se producen en el proyecto filosófico de Nietzsche a partir de 1876.

    This article tries to show the two different and antagonistic valuations that Rome and the Roman Empire have in the work of Nietzsche. In his youth, Rome represents the “barbarian state” that opposes the «state of culture» characteristic of tragic Greece. In addition, Rome is a fundamental historical milestone in the progressive dominance of Socratic- Alexandrian culture in the West. After Human, too human, Rome means, on the contrary, an aristocratic way of life that confronts Christianity —the now decisive event in the history of the West— and ends up being defeated by it. The reason for this change in the estimation of this historical-cultural phenomenon is, in our opinion, in the transformations that take place in Nietzsche's philosophical project after 1876.
