    Alfredo Coffino.- Arquitecto de su tiempo que desarrolla una gran aventura vital. Hasta hace poco, la información disponible sobre el autor, se limitaba a lo reflejado en la documentación del edificio que obra en los archivos del Ayuntamiento de Almendralejo (estudio en la Rúa dos Retroceiros número 35 de Lisboa). Nuevos datos nos aportan una mayor luz sobre la vida del autor, desde su nacimiento en 1869 hasta su muerte en 1925, que nos permitirá encuadrar su actividad dentro del contexto cultural y social en el que vivió. Los antecedentes formales del Teatro Carolina Coronado y su vinculación a la actividad profesional de Coffino. Como medio para acercarnos a la arquitectura de Alfredo Coffino, y por ello a las raíces de nuestro teatro, nos parece el camino más fructífero la presentación de obras con las que estuvo relacionado directa o indirectamente, e incluso aquellas de las que tenemos certeza que el arquitecto conoció en profundidad. La evolución del Teatro Carolina Coronado desde su construcción. El periodo de cien años transcurridos desde su construcción, prácticamente todo el siglo XX, ha dejado profundas huellas derivadas de necesidades y situaciones sociales cambiantes que, sin llegar a la desaparición sufrida por edificios coetáneos, dan lugar a sensibles transformaciones respecto a su situación inicial. La rehabilitación del edificio tras su adquisición por la Junta de Extremadura. Puesta al día para el nuevo milenio. La agonía a la que se ven sometidas las salas de cine por efecto de la Televisión, cristaliza en un plan discreto y callado de la joven Junta de Extremadura para recuperar los cines y teatros. El cinematógrafo, como forma de ocio indiscutible durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, sufre un proceso de deterioro, hasta llegar al agotamiento que se pondrá de manifiesto en los propios edificios. En ese contexto, a partir de 1994 y una vez en manos públicas, se realizarán una serie de actuaciones tendentes a recuperar la funcionalidad y el antiguo esplendor del Cine Teatro Carolina Coronado..

    Alfredo Coffino. An architect of his own time that develops a great vital adventure. Until very recently, the information available about this author, it was limited to what is shown in the building documentation that is now in the Almendralejo town hall archives possession (Architect office in Retroceiros Street number 35, Lisbon). New data give us a better insight into the life of the author, since he was born in 1869 until his death in 1925, which will allow us to frame its activity within the cultural and social context in which he lived. The formal background of the Carolina Coronado Theater and its link to the professional activity of Coffino. As a resource to approach the architecture of Alfredo Coffino, and therefore to the roots of our theater, we find that the most profitable way is showing other buildings that the author was involved to directly or indirectly, and even those of which we are certain that the architect knew deeply. The period of one hundred years that have elapsed since its construction, practically throughout the twentieth century, has left deep traces in the Theater, derived from changing social needs and situations that, without reaching the disappearance suffered by other contemporaneous buildings, give rise to sensitive transformations with respect to their initial situation.
