One night in 1604 the sky was suddenly lit up by a new star. The event caused quite a stir. Galilei gave three university Lezioni on the subject, in which he claimed that the location of the new star was to be found in the sphere of the fixed stars. This view triggered off strong reactions amongst peripatetics, to whom Galileo replied with La Difesa and a Dialogo. Lezioni, La Difesa and Dialogo appear therefore closely related and, at the same time, harbingers of that tenacious journey –repeat

In una notte del 1604 il cielo fu improvvisamente illuminato da un nuovo astro. L’evento creò grande scalpore e curiosità. Galilei tenne tre Lezioni universitarie al riguardo, in cui sostenne che la collocazione della Stella nuova fosse nella sfera delle stelle fisse. Tale tesi innescò forti reazioni da parte dei peripatetici, a cui Galileo rispose con La Difesa e un Dialogo. Le Lezioni, La Difesa e il Dialogo appaiono, pertanto, scritti inscindibili e, al tempo stesso, preannunciatori di quel tenace viaggio, continuamente negato e impugnato, compiuto da Galileo verso la verità.
