Las mujeres en el siglo xvii estaban inmersas en un sistema patriarcal en las que su papel era secundario en la jerarquía de género, estando prácticamente limitadas a la esfera doméstica. A pesar de que escribir no siempre fue fácil para ellas, hubo quieres fueron capaces de expresar sus sentimientos y las condiciones que tenían que hacer frente en ese sistema por medio de la literatura. Las escritoras de la época incluyen a Margaret Cavendish, Ann Lady Fanshawe, Mary Oxliey Anne Finch, entre otras. En nuestro estudio vamos a centrarnos en mujeres que se atrevieron a escribir y, asimismo, comentaremos escritos donde podemos comprobar cómo no siempre aceptaron el papel que se suponía propio de las mismas. Sus pasos fueron importantes en el camino de construir un mundo igualitario en derechos.

Women in the seventeenth century were involved in a patriarcal system. They were considered second-class citizens on the “gender hierarchy” and were largely limited to the domestic sphere. Even though writing was not always easy for women, there were females who were able to express themselves by means of literature, showing their feelings and the conditions they had to face. Female writers at that time include Margaret Cavendish, Ann Lady Fanshawe, Mary Oxlie and Anne Finch, among others. In our study we are going to focus on women who were able to write and we will also show writings in which we can offer some evidence that the role given to females was not always accepted by them. Their steps were important ones in the path of creating a world in which both men and women have the same rights.
