    El vínculo entre retórica y arquitectura cobra particular relevancia en los diez libros que integran De re aedificatoria, de Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472). Para Alberti, la arquitectura debe ser, ante todo, una orientadora de conductas. Más precisamente, la apelación a las fórmulas de la retórica clásica en la teoría de la edificación desplegada por Alberti se encamina a trazar los fines propios del arte arquitectónico, cuya “racionalidad” debe ser transmitida al espectador-ciudadano. En efecto, si el aspecto técnico de la edificación reside en el plan del artifex, su resultado posibilita la emergencia de un orden virtuoso, que se traslada desde la conformación del edificio a su contemplación y su ocupación. Es por ello que, tal como analizamos en el presente artículo, Leon Battista Alberti reflexiona, en De re aedificatoria, no sólo sobre el vínculo entre arte y naturaleza, a partir de los conceptos de imitatio, electio, pulchritudo y ornamentum, sino que también manifiesta la necesaria relación que se establece entre los atributos estéticos y morales de la edificación.

    The link between rhetoric and architecture takes particular relevance in the ten books of De re aedificatoria, by Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472). For Alberti, architecture should be, first of all, a guide for behaviours. More precisely, his appealing to classical rhetorical formulas in the theory of construction tends to redraw the purposes of architectural art, whose "rationality" must be transmitted to the spectator-citizen. Indeed, if the technical aspect of construction resides in the artifex plan, its result allows the emergence of a virtuous order, which moves from the conformation of the building to his contemplation and occupation. That's the reason why, as we analyse in this paper, Leon Battista Alberti reflects in De re aedificatoria, not only on the link between art and nature, involving the concept of imitatio, electio, pulchritudo and ornamentum, but also manifests the necessary association between the aesthetic and moral attributes of the construction.
