The goal of this paper is to solve the Benefactive Paradox: (1) Beneficiaries are not arguments, (2) Beneficiaries behave like arguments. In order to solve it, we show that (2) is essentially right, so that it is (1) that must be mistaicen. Two different proposals regarding (1) are discarded, namely Baker's and Larson's. Baker claims that beneficiaries are arguments of the verb, and Larson proposes a rule called "Benefactive Augmentation" that turns nonargument beneficiaries into arguments. Against these views, we propose that beneficiaries are not arguments of the verb either inherently or derivatively. In our proposal, beneficiaries are arguments of V', which accounts for their argument behavior. This proposa1 is free from the problems that affect the other two, and it is well supported by various evidence.

L'objectiu d'aquest treball és resoldre la paradoxa del benefactiu: Paradoxa del benefactiu (1) Els benefactius no són arguments (2) Els benefactius es comporten com arguments Per tal de resoldre la paradoxa, mostrem que (2) és essencialment correcte, de manera que (1) ha de ser erroni. Dues propostes referides a (1) són refusades, a saber les de Baker i Larson. Baker sosté que els benefactius si que són arguments del verb, i Larson proposa una regla anomenada "Benefactive Augmentation" que els converteix en arguments. Contra aquests punts de vista, nosaltres afirmem que els benefactius no són arguments del verb, ni inherentment ni per derivació. En la nostra proposta, els benefactius són arguments de V', cosa que dóna compte del seu comportament com arguments. Aquesta proposta no té els problemes que afecten les altres dues, i rep un suport eficaç de diverses menes d'evidència.
