Among the very different types of tourist flows arriving in the cities the one drawn by conferences' and congresses' celebration shows two modalities. The first one consists of those congresses attended by thousands of people whose celebra- tion come from decisions taken outside the city of destination; another modality of congress tourism includes those small and middle size events emerging from those more dynamic and innovative activities located in the city of the destination of the tourist flows. This is a very specific feature of the metropolitan tourism as it in the big cities where those kinds of activities are preferably located. The paper deals mostly with the role played by the universities as a driver and organizer bodies of conferences and congresses as long as they results of their own teaching and researching activity; this explains the fact that the universities are taking profit of their own facilities and staff for implementing this kind of activity. The contribution underlines the many different situations existing into the university's tourism providing some outstanding examples.
