El alojamiento universitario:: una oportunidad social y un reto para el sector de la arquitectura

    Resumen estructurado Objetivo El objetivo de este artículo es introducir al lector sobre la dimensión arquitectónica actual y del futuro próximo del servicio de alojamiento universitario. El autor enmarca esta dimensión del alojamiento universitario dentro del marco más amplio del sistema residencial en el estado español y del sistema de movilidad universitaria. La arquitectura de las residencias universitarias españolas debe alinearse con los cambios que se están produciendo y se producirán en la universidad española, en relación con los propios campus y la multiplicidad de formas de residir en la ciudad.

    Metodología Se realiza un breve vistazo histórico del contexto español, se enumeran también las exigencias que concurren actualmente en este servicio residencial y posteriormente se contextualiza su función en el marco de la evolución y maduración del sistema de educación superior. Se introduce al lector en las contingencias de la prestación y accesibilidad a este servicio, las cuales influyen notablemente en el programa funcional y arquitectónico que se debe ejecutar en cada caso. Finalmente se introducen algunos retos urbanos, arquitectónicos y constructivos que transcienden el propio marco funcional del alojamiento universitario pero que hacen hincapié en su función de generar una ciudad equitativa, sostenible y viva. Finalmente,bajo el epígrafe de tendencias se quiere hacer notar como este tipo de alojamiento está fuertemente influido por tendencias sociales que afectan a la población joven occidental y que se reflejan en el estilo de habitar estos edificios.

    Conclusiones El alojamiento universitario engloba un conjunto variado y diverso de tipos arquitectónicos y funcionales de una gran relevancia educativa y urbana para la sociedad. A pesar de ello se encuentra a faltar un marco legislativo propio que establezca unas reglas claras y sostenidas en el tiempo para que surja una demanda consistente, variada y flexible para sostener una oferta diferenciada y reconocible de calidad en el ámbito del alojamiento universitario.

    Originalidad El interés y originalidad del artículo reside en la visión amplia eintegrada de los diversos vectores que intervienen en la ubicación, configuración y materialización de la dimensión arquitectónica del alojamiento universitario. Para complementar esta visión, se da acceso al lector en el apartado final de referencias a una muestra internacional de casos recopilada por el autor con sus alumnos.

    Structured abstract Objective The objective of this article is to introduce the reader to the current architectural dimension and the near future of the university housing service. The author frames this dimension of university housing within the broader framework of the residential system in the Spanish state and the university mobility system. The architecture of Spanish university residences must be aligned with the changes that are occurring and will occur in the Spanish university, in relation to the campuses themselves and the multiplicity of ways of residing in the city.

    Methodology A brief historical overview of the Spanish context is made, the requirements that concur in this residential service are also listed and its function is contextualized within the framework of the evolution and maturation of the higher education system. The reader is introduced in the contingencies of the provision and accessibility to this service, which significantly influence the functional and architectural program that must be executed in each case. Finally, some urban, architectural and construction challenges are introduced that go beyond the functional framework of university accommodation but emphasize its function of creating an equitable, sustainable and lively city. Finally, under the heading of trends we want to point out how this type of accommodation is strongly influenced by social trends that affect the young western population and that are reflected in the style of inhabiting these buildings.

    Conclusions The university housing includes a varied and diverse set of architectural and functional types of great educational and urban relevance for society. In spite of this, there is a lack of a proper legislative framework that establishes clear and sustained rules over time so that a consistent, varied and flexible demand arises to sustain a differentiated and recognizable offer of quality in the field of university accommodation.

    Originality The interest and originality of the article lies in the broad and integrated vision of the different vectors that intervene in the location, configuration and materialization of the architectural dimension of the university accommodation. To complement this vision, the reader is given access to the final section of references to an international sample of cases compiled by the author with his students.
