If you want to know better the history of Extremadura, it will be neces-sary, sometimes, to put it in direct relation with other neighboring lands. In this case we will do it with Andalusia, seeing how Sierra Morena never acted as a frontier, but rather an area of passage between the lands of the autonomous communities mentioned above. The transit through the mountain areas was made by itineraries of easy road control thanks to the multiple fortifications that, seated in strategic places, exercised functions of control and security. One of those strategic points was an easily accessible mountain despite being the highest in the mountain environment; by these circumstances we believe that in former times it had great military importance, an aspect that preceded the devotional itself, for which today it is better known.
