Resumen de Upcycling y soberanía textil: metodologías de investigación y prácticas contemporáneas

El artículo presenta la práctica del upcycling o suprarreciclaje, una metodología contemporánea para la transformación social del vestido que nos permite revisar el arte textil y sus aplicaciones, y reflexionar sobre ellos. Esta práctica nos acerca a los objetos que nuestra sociedad desvaloriza, es mayoritariamente explorada y desarrollada por mujeres y contiene un profundo legado histórico. Me propongo mostrar el upcycling como una metodología de estudio e investigación; analizar su potencial como herramienta para la transformación social del textil y del vestido; estudiar el concepto de soberanía como máxima expresión de control de las decisiones (de compra, uso, producción y reflexión), y reflexionar acerca de la herencia de las artes textiles como posible motor para construir un nuevo paradigma de un futuro vivible, de decrecimiento y respeto social, ambientalmente sano y seguro para todos los seres vivos de nuestro planeta.

The text presents the upcycling practice as a contemporary methodology for textile social transformation. A methodology that allows articulating a review and a reflection about textile art and its applications. A methodology that brings us closer to the objects that our society devalues, mostly explored and developed by woman around the world, and with a huge heritage legacy. It is not a matter here of making this technique known, closely related to artistic recycling, but of proposing it as a study and a research methodology. Using it as a tool for the social transformation of the textile culture and linked through the sovereignty concept, understanding it as the ultimate expression of control over our decisions (shopping, using, producing, and thoughts). The objective is to reflect how through the inheritance of textile arts, a new livable future paradigm can be constructed, based on degrowth, social respect and environmental care, safety and security for all the living beings of our planet.
