Resumen de El arbitraje en el mundo deportivo: el Tribunal Arbitral du Sport. Caracteres generales de dicha corte y sus procedimientos

• The particularities of the world of sport and its increasing professionalization and internationalization have led the sporting bodies, entities and «players» in general to search and set out dispute resolution mechanisms which are suitable to satisfy the needs of speed and specific expertise involved by nature in that field.

  The Tribunal Arbitral du Sport (TAS, or CAS —Court of Arbitration for Sport— in English) constitutes the culmination of the referred purpose on a worldwide basis: a true and independent arbitral court deciding on sports related disputes in a final and binding way. This article aims at making an approach to the origin, nature and organization of this court, and at providing a general and non-exhaustive overview of the main aspects of the procedures to be conducted under the TAS rules. In other words, it intends to be a sort of introduction of the TAS to those who are not familiar with the particularities of this court and its rules. TAS settles disputes through arbitration, but with some peculiarities. The specificity of sport and the way it is globally organized make the difference.
