Resumen de The experiences with chemical dependency in a “healing house” in Southern Brazil

O trabalho consiste em apresentar experiências de homens que decidiram por um tratamento alternativo para curar a dependência química por meio da ayahuasca em uma instituição religiosa situada no sul do Brasil. A partir dos relatos de experiências buscou-se verificar como: estes homens compreendiam a relação entre “estar doente” e “estar curado” e quais as motivações que sentiam para incorporarem as regras, as normas estabelecidas desta instituição após ter sido curado pela mesma. Os resultados indicam que estes homens compreendem suas vidas sociais a partir da relação entre “antes da cura” e “depois da cura”. Conclui-se que o “antes da cura” é relatado por estes indivíduos como uma fase da vida que não tinham consciência em relação às suas ações sociais, portanto a participação na instituição apresentou-se como uma significativa garantia social por tratá-los distintivamente, como exemplos de pessoas que superaram a dependência química, e que podem viver uma “nova vida” social, pois atualmente consideram-se “conscientes” de suas escolhas diante do mundo contemporâneo.

The article has the aim is to present the trajectories of men who decided on an alternative treatment to cure addiction through ayahuasca (daime) in a religious institution located in Southern Brazil. From the experience reports sought to verify as these men understand the relationship between "sick" and "being cured" and what motives they find to incorporate the norms established by this institution after being cured there. The results indicates that these men understand their social lives from the relationship between "before curing" and "after the cure." The article concludes arguing that "before curing" is reported by these individuals as a stage of life that they had no awareness of their social activities. Therefore the participation in the institution appeared as a significant social security by treating them distinctly, as examples of people who have overcome drug addiction. They can live a "new life" social because currently they considered to be "aware" of their choices on the contemporary world
