    • The process of characterization and modeling of network performance as a small but accurate set of related metrics is key to the better understanding of Internet operation. This leads to aids in network optimization and provision. Low-level Internet performance measurements, such as, delay, jitter, loss and throughput, collected at monitoring points, contain representative information about its current state. However, these measurements need to be interpreted and processed to obtain the performance metrics. Such parameters must summarize, describe and display performance conclusions about actual network activity. This can result in the provision of meaningful information to enabling applications such as fault and performance management, hence providing inputo to network provisioning, traffic engineering and performance prediction. This work presents a novel way to merge two low-level measurements: delay and loss, in a combined approach.
