El presente artículo pretende ofrecer una primigenia aproximación a la figura del alcalde mayor en la Extremadura de la segunda mitad de la centuria, y para ello se realizará un análisis de las consultas elaboradas por el Consejo de Órdenes Militares para determinado número de varas vacantes. Se analizará el perfeccionamiento del sistema de gobierno, así como nuevas aportaciones sobre el componente socio-profesional de los letrados que las ocuparon o fueron consultados para ellas.

The present article tries to offer an approximation to the figure of the Alcalde Mayor in the Extremadura of the second half of the century, and for it there will be realized an analysis of the consultations elaborated by the Consejo de Órdenes Militares for certain number of vacant rods. There will be analyzed the development of the system of government, as well as new contributions on the social and professional component of the lawyers who occupied them or were consulted for them.
