    En 1876 el prolífico músico venezolano José Ángel Montero redactó un proyecto educativo dirigido al Presidente de la República Antonio Guzmán Blanco. Se trataba del proyecto de creación del Instituto Musical Venezolano. En este trabajo hacemos un análisis del contenido de dicho proyecto cuyo manuscrito esta resguardado en la Biblioteca Nacional de Venezuela. De allí se pueden extraer elementos que pueden contribuir en el estudio de la realidad musical venezolana de finales del siglo XIX y de la postura de Montero ante esa realidad. Este análisis se fortalece con la comparación que presentamos entre el proyecto de Montero y la propuesta aprobada en 1877 de creación del Instituto de Bellas Artes

    In 1876 the prolific Venezuelan musician José Ángel Montero wrote an educational project addressed to the President of the Republic Antonio Guzmán Blanco. It was about the creation project of the Venezuelan Musical Institute. In this work we make an analysis of the content of this project whose manuscript is stored in the National Library of Venezuela. From there, elements that can contribute to the study of the Venezuelan musical reality of the late nineteenth century and of Montero’s attitude to that reality can be extracted. This analysis is strengthened by the comparison we present between the Montero project and the proposal approved in 1877 for the creation of the Institute of Fine Arts.
