Los diferentes avances técnicos en el cam-po de la medicina que tuvieron lugar a lolargo del siglo XX y las controversias que sur-gieron a partir de diferentes experiencias deinvestigación que no cumplían ningún tipode principio ético dieron lugar a la aparicióny organización de los llamados Comités deética que se ocuparon tanto de los proble-mas bioéticos que surgían en el campo de lainvestigación como en el campo asistencial.En este artículo se realiza una revisión his-tórica de los orígenes de los comités de éti-ca, se explican las características de dichoscomités y se repasa la trayectoria del Comitéde Ética Asistencial de Benito Menni CASM.
