The following article aims to shed sorne light on this little known work of Sevillian infrastructure that has passed unnoticed by historians and the local population alike. This bridge, in parallel to an earlier bridge, that of Alfonso XIII (1926), formed part of an improvement plan far the port of Seville (Brackenbury). The bridge was largely associated with small boat navigation on the Los Gordales meander or towards Cardaba, and its capacity as a bascule bridge soon became obso!ete and the bridge fell into disuse. Far decades the bridge served as the only point of connection from the south of Aljarafe to the capital and it unobtrusively performs this purpose to this very day.
