  • Resumen
    • The article seeks to reconstruct the Bolzesi collection, formed in Cremona during the first quarter of the nineteenth century, with a special focus on the aesthetic choices that determined its creation. Prompted by Giuseppe Diotti, who was at that time pianting frescoes in his palazzo, Gaetano Bolzesi, a leading local businessman who was well informed about the latest trends in Milan, requested outstanding works from Palagi, Hayez and Ronzoni. In 1816 he succeeded in purchasing the core of his collection from the Bergamasque nobleman Antonio Pezzoli, who had commissioned paintings and sculptures from the undisputed protagonists of contemporary art. The discovery of the "Head of a Muse" by Antonio Canova, formerly in the Pezzoli collection, or the extensively-documented "Hebe" by Vicenzo Camuccini, also unpublished, as well as the rediscovery of a hitherto unknown figure of "Charity" by Gaspare Landi, thus provide a new impetus for research on te evolution of Neoclassicism in Italy.
