Resumen de Vampiros: algumas faces do monstro em narrativas brasileiras

O vampiro, ao que tudo indica, configura-se como um ser atemporal, seja ocupando as crenças de determinadas sociedades, seja apresentando-se como personagem na literatura, na TV ou no cinema. Da sua concepção arcaica até as modernas figurações ele sofreu (e ainda sofre) inúmeras metamorfoses, cada cultura apresenta-o sob formatos diferentes, afirmando ou negando valores de épocas distintas. Neste trabalho, analisam-se algumas incursões do vampiro pela literatura brasileira, mais precisamente entre 1849 (ano da publicação de Otávio e Branca ou a Maldição Materna – de João Cardoso de Menezes e Souza) e 1908 (ano da publicação de Esfinge – de Coelho Neto). Procura-se, com isso, evidenciar quais foram as faces que a literatura brasileira emprestou ao mito e perceber se a sua presença em território nacional, de meados do século XIX ao alvorecer do século XX, firmou-se ou se apenas constituiu algo passageiro.

The vampire, by all indications, constitutes as a timeless being, occupying the beliefs of certain societies, or presenting itself as a character in literature, TV or movies From its archaic conception to the modern figurations it suffered (and it still suffers) several metamorphoses, each culture presents it under different formats, affirming or denying values from different times. In this paper, some representations of the vampire in the Brazilian literature are analyzed, more precisely between 1849 (year of publication of Otávio e Branca ou a Maldição Materna- by João Cardoso de Menezes e Souza) and 1908 (year of publication of Esfinge – by Coelho Neto). We tried, by doing this, to show what faces the Brazilian literature lent to the myth, and to notice if its presence in the national territory, from the mid-nineteenth century to the dawn of the twentieth century, has established itself or if it is just transitory.
