    En este artículo se analizan las posibilidades y limitaciones del control de las principales plagas y enfermedades del manzano en producción ecológica. Es importante destacar la importancia de la aproximación holística en el manejo del agroecosistema, ya que cada una de las decisiones que se tomen acerca del material vegetal (especie y variedad), tipo de formación del árbol, riego y manejo de la cubierta vegetal, entre otros, afectarán a la incidencia y severidad de ciertas plagas y enfermedades. Actualmente, existen herramientas para lograr un control fitosanitario satisfactorio. No obstante, en caso de presión de plaga o enfermedad especialmente elevada, se obtendrán daños medios o elevados. Por otra parte, la demanda de fruta ecológica crece año tras año y su precio en origen es más elevado y estable que en agricultura convencional.

    The possibilities and limitations of organic apple pest and disease management are discussed in this paper. It is important to highlight the importance of the holistic approach in the management of the agroecosystem since each one of the decisions that are made about the plant material (species and variety), type of training system, irrigation and management of the cover crop, among others, they will affect the incidence and severity of certain pests and diseases. Currently, there are tools to achieve satisfactory pest and disease management. In case of a high pest or disease pressure, medium or high damages will be attained. On the other hand, the demand for organic grows year after year, and its price at origin is higher and more stable than in conventional agriculture.
