La actividad turística en España experimenta un proceso significativo de renovación durante la primera mitad del siglo xx. En este periodo se forman unas iniciales «geografías turísticas» relacionadas con la mejora de las infraestructuras de transporte y de los medios de acceso. El incremento de la movilidad y de las posibilidades de desplazamiento influyó en las primeras iniciativas de planificación turística a escala española, lo que resultó determinante en la conformación de las rutas e itinerarios turísticos modernos, previos al turismo de masas.
Tourism activity underwent a significant modernisation process in Spain during the first half of the twentieth century. During this time, the first «tourist geographies» emerged due to improvements in transport and access infrastructure. Increased mobility, together with greater options and opportunities to travel, had an important influence on early tourism planning initiatives. These were crucial in establishing the first modern tourist areas, which opened the door to the coming of mass tourism.
